When you think of a hero… words like fearless, selfless and brave come to mind. Ted Groene epitomizes those words.
He has dedicated his life to always saving the day.
In late April 2026 Ted was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. The entire western sports community has rallied behind his fight.

In 1979, Ted Groene began his career as a bullfighter - and to this very day- is still one of the greatest to have ever worn those cleats.
Saving lives in the arena, risking his own life and limb, Ted sustained a life altering injury in 1994.
Four short years later, in 1998, Ted ran from the backpens of the arena in Boise, Idaho to put himself in between a bull and PBR World Champion Chris Shivers. Laying himself on top of Chris, Ted saved his life.

After retiring from bullfighting, Ted set his sights on being part of the team that keeps PBR operating like a well-oiled machine in cities all over the country. Despite being retired from bullfighting, the protective nature is still within him.
Truly protective in every aspect, Ted is one of the unsung heroes that runs toward a wreck instead of away - EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
Now is OUR time to run into the wreck for Ted. Support his fight with cancer by donating, joining the online auction or simply sending positive thoughts and prayers his way.
In times like these the power of prayer, well wishes, encouragement, stories of the past and more are always uplifting.
Share those with Ted & his family here!
